Cingular SIM in AT&T phone?

I bought a used and unlocked AT&T LG phone and am using a Cingular SIM in it. I thought everything was working fine until I realized I couldn’t download ringtones or graphics, or use any web functions at all. The phone has Mmode which is AT&T’s web functions as opposed to Cingular’s Media Mall. But I think since cingular and AT&T are now merged, shouldn’t the web services be merged also. Is there any way I can fix this problem or am I out of luck? I bought this phone for my younger sister and was planning to give it to her as a birthday present. But now I’m afraid if I give it to her with it’s current problems, that she will be disappointed. Any help? Any suggestions appreciated, thanks alot.

The problem you have is this: Since the phone was manufactured for AT&T Wireless, only the AT&T settings were ever loaded into the phone. The Cingular settings were not. When you unlocked the phone, it does not change any of the settings. It only allows you to use a different SIM. So in order to fix this issue, you will need to manually enter in the Cingular settings (which is called Media Net). I don’t know which model LG phone you have but I will provide settings from the G4010…which may or may not be similar to yours.

1. Press the Menu soft key.
2. Scroll to “Internet” (it may or may not be called Internet), then press the Ok soft key.
3. Scroll to “Profiles”, then press the Ok soft key.
4. Highlight “Express”(or it may be called something else such as mMode), then press the Options soft key.
5. Scroll to “Settings”, then press the Ok soft key.
6. Verify the following settings:
* Homepage: http://device.home
* Bearer: GPRS
* GPRS settings:
o IP address: 66.209.11.61
o APN: wap.cingular
User ID: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM (make sure you use capital letters)
o Password: CINGULAR1 (make sure you use capital letters)
* Display image:
o Yes (does not effect service)
o No (does not effect service)
* Connect type
o Continuous – maintain a constant connection.
* Secure setting: none
