GSM vs Edge, whats the difference?
A coworker just got the exact same phone as me a Blackberry 8310 Curve. We both have AT&T. Neither has a Blackberry data plan, to use the internet or send pics, but she does have a $20/month text messaging plan. But above the bars her phone says Edge and mine says GSM. She can get on the internet and download ringtones. But I can’t. Is it b/c she has the text messaging, but that shouldnt make any difference should it? Thanks
I think it says “EDGE”. and why cant I get on that too. We have set our phones side by side and turned them off when mine comes on it goes straight to GSM, when hers comes on it goes to GSM then to EDGE.
The $20 texting package probably includes some data. In Canada, we have ROGERS which is similar to AT&T in the U.S. and we used to be affiliated… Anyways, here we have a $20 package which includes texting, voicemail, caller ID, and 2MB of mobile internet browsing. Although, the 2MB of mobile browsing *should* only work on regular phones, NOT BLACKBERRIES. So, its kind of strange. But that is likely why she can get it and you cant. Question for you, on hers does it say “edge” or “EDGE”?

You can get on that too of course! Go to your AT&T store, and get them to pull up your friends account, find out what she is on, and then ask them to put it on yours too! Shouldn’t be a problem.
