LG Banter mp3′s to ringtones.?

I have an LG Banter cell phone and an 8gb micro-sd card. What I want to do is set some songs I have as ringtones, but there isn’t an option on my phone to set a song as a ringtone. What I’m wondering is if there is a certain folder on the sd card that I need to put the mp3 files in, if I need to convert it to a different format, if it has to be a certain length, if I can even set things as ringtones that I didn’t buy from my provider (Alltel) or any other things I have to do to be able to get this to work.
