Using Ringtones For Iphone

How can I get ringtones for my iPhone 3GS?

I have just bought an iPhone and it wont let me use any of my ringtones unless I have purchased a song on iTunes. But also, when I have purchased a song on iTunes it still wont let me create a ringtone as it comes up with an error! Can anyone tell me a way around this please?

It can be done but it is a pain in the royal rear. Have to import all of your ring tones in to itunes as a ACC format. Then Right click on each one and show in windows. then change file extension to m4r.

file name should end up looking like this (ringtone.m4r)
Then reimport to intunes. should show up in ringtones folder.
To make file extensions visable in vista.

1.Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.

2.Click the View tab, and then, under Advanced settings, do one of the following:

•To hide file extensions, select the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.

•To display file extensions, clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.

In XP
open My Computer and go to the Tools Menu (Alt + t) and then click Folder Options, in the dialog box change to the View tab and look for Hide extensions for known files and uncheck it and click OK.
